Sanjai Chips or more commonly called Kerupuk Sanjai. This snack was already widely known by the public. Not only in Bukittinggi or West Sumatra, but also in Indonesia.

Keruouk Sanjai are now synonymous with Bukittinggi. Everyone who travels or comes to Bukittinggi will certainly buy or taste the crispy chips.

Sanjai crackers are a kind of snack made from thinly grated cassava, dried in the sun to dry, then fried and added with other seasonings to make it more crispy and delicious.

Making Sanjai Chips is actually fairly simple. Cassava is washed clean and thinly sliced, then fried dry. After being drained, then given a seasoning according to taste. Want balado, sweet or salty.

The name Sanjai comes from the name of a street or area in the northern part of Bukittinggi City. Residents who live around Jalan Sanjai are indeed mostly profession as cassava chips craftsmen. Initially there were only 3 variations of this cassava crackers, namely Sanjai Tawar, Saka Saka and Sanjai Balado.

Kerupuk Sanjai Tawar

Karupuk Sanjai is made from fresh cassava. Cassava is washed and soaked first. Only then seasoned with just a little salt. This makes it tastier, a little salty. Usually has a lighter color, white.


Kerupuk Sanjai Saka

This snack is more or less the same processing as the first one. However, there are additional seasonings that make it more delicious. Namely the brown sugar seasoning.

Karupuak Sanjai Balado

This type is the most sought after. It tastes more bite, makes the tongue sway. Cassava is cut into thin slices, and soaked and fried. For the seasoning itself, these chips use lado (sambal, chili). Balado seasoning is what makes cassava more spicy, makes the taste more delicious.

All three variations have their own interests. You might also be interested in one of them. Because almost most people in the archipelago have their respective preferences about taste.
